I had great fun working with the amazing Sherwin Schwartzrock, on an Avengers comic book for Target's Instagram campaign. Sherwin blocked in rough layouts, I sketched up quick concepts, to be shot with limited-movement Hasbro action figures. See the rest on Instagram @AvengersatTarget. Follow me @jkArtsy.
I had the amazing privilege of working with Casey Twenter, Jeff Robison, and William H. Macy and crew on the film Rudderless, which will debut October 17th.
Rudderless features an all-star cast including Billy Crudup, Anton Yelchin, Selena Gomez, Laurence Fishburne, William H. Macy, and Felicity Huffman. It also includes some great music, a key thread woven throughout the film.
And yeah, the movie's really good.
Casey Twenter, a colleague and client of many years, and an accomplished designer, creative director and writer, co-wrote the film with Jeff Robison, also an accomplished writer and client as well. The team collaborated on Rudderless after connecting over a fantasy football discussion, and then producing their first film, The Jogger.
Rudderless was also filmed here in Oklahoma City. Casey asked if I would storyboard key sequences with William H. Macy, the award winning Hollywood actor, director and executive producer of the film.
It was an honor and a blast working directly with the crew, including Bill, the writers, Director of Photography Eric Lin, assistant directors Nic Harvard, Rachel Jensen, Nathan Gardocki and many others.
The crew (mostly local) was a brilliant and skillful group. Some of my fondest memories are being so warmly invited into the team, especially by Bill, who kindly approached me many times despite being busy. He even welcomed me into the booth to sit near him, the moments I could be on set, as he adroitly strummed in his ukulele between takes.
Since the film was not a high budget one, they could only afford to storyboard the most complex scenes. Here are a few samples featuring the Regatta scene filmed on Lake Hefner and parts of the complex Band “Montage".
And check out Rudderless, I think you'll find it's funny, heartwarming and surprisingly thought-provoking.

Each annual festival highlights a specific country, and that nation's cultural heritage. Naturally all of the other mainstay cultural experiences, including several ethnic restaurants, cultural dance teams, musicians, and vendors are eternally present.
My role centers around the event's promotional pieces, the annual event icon, programs, t-shirts, and posters, by visually illuminating the most intriguing elements of that year's featured culture.
At every festival, Rose State graciously supplies me with a booth and large stacks of posters to sign, and I'm always amazed by the lines that form. So many kind and happy "fans" stop by, (many are annual regulars) all of which I'm always thrilled to greet, sign and take photos with.
